Primary Responsibilities

Primary Responsibilities:

• Staffing
• Interviewing and hiring qualified staff 
• Providing appropriate orientation and training CLASSROOM ORIENTATION.
• Supervising staff on an ongoing basis, including the development of work plans.
• Informing staff of licensure requirements and policy changes through regular staff meetings.
• Locating appropriate training opportunities and making accommodations for staff to attend.

• Scheduling to maintain an efficient number of staff to meet the center’s needs. NORMA
• Providing support to staff and maintaining employee confidentiality.
• Maintain current and accurate staff records (including all licensing required components.

• Complete enrollment information (including applications, immunization, and allergy records) 
• Ensure that children’s records are current and accurate, including all licensing requirements. 
• Ensure that the center meets all licensing requirements. 

This includes, but is not limited to:

• Standards of health and safety (Sanitation) 
• Learning environment
• Nutrition and food preparation
• Physical safety and well-being of children and staff
• Establishing and executing policies and procedures that ensure the wellbeing of children, such as:
• Developmentally appropriate curriculum
• Positive Behaviour Management Plans
• Safe arrival and departure
• Maintaining an environment that is tolerant and respectful of children’s and family’ cultures values and differences
• Establishing relationships with individual children and families and being responsive to their needs.
• Provide care in classrooms as needed to meet safety and licensing regulations.
• Provide families with information and assistance with community resources.
• Report evidence of suspected abuse/ neglect to the local Department of Social Services

Center Operation

• Maintain the facility per licensing standards.
• Maintain center records (includes emergency drills, building, fire, and sanitation inspections).
• Develop and update personnel and operational procedures.
• Develop and maintain the annual budget. Maintain payroll and benefits packages.
• Establish fees and the procedure for obtaining fees. Monitor fee payments.
• Oversee/approve orders of appropriate center supplies for provision of care (food, gloves, toiletries, etc)
• Approve and order materials and supplies for classroom programs and activities.
• Represent the center in the community and act as a liaison with other agencies.
• Establish and maintain a healthy, safe, and fun working environment.

Qualifications

• In-depth knowledge of early childhood education principles, curriculum development, and child development.
• Strong understanding of state and federal regulations related to preschool operations.
• Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
• Ability to build and maintain positive relationships with staff, parents, and the community.
• Proficiency in budgeting and financial management.
• CPR and First Aid certification.
• Option 1: BA or higher (does not have to be in ECE/CD)including:
  • 24 ECE/CD units with core courses**
  • plus 6 administration units
  • plus 2 adult supervision units
• Option 2: Admin. credential *** with
  • 12 units of ECE/CD, plus 3 units supervised field
  • experience in ECE/CD setting
• Option 3: Teaching credential**** with:
  •  12 units of ECE/CD, plus 3 units supervised field
  • experience in ECE/CD setting, plus 6 units administration
• Option 4: Site Supervisor status with current certificate
  • One program year of Site Supervisor experience
•  Option 5: Master’s Degree
  • in ECE/CD or Child/Human Development
• **Core Courses: One course in each of the following categories, Child/Human Growth & Development; Child/Family/Community or Child and Family Relations; and Programs/Curriculum.(All core coursework must meet a minimum unit requirement of three semester units or four quarter units)
• ***Holders of the Administrative Services Credential may serve as a Site Supervisor or Program Director.
• ****A valid Multiple Subject or a Single Subject in Home Economics.
• Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in early childhood education, with at least 2 years in a leadership or supervisory role.

Other Requirements

• Ability to lift and carry up to 40 pounds.
• Frequent bending, kneeling, and standing for extended periods.
• Capability to respond quickly in an emergency situation.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Strong leadership, organizational, and decision-making abilities.

• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills for engaging with staff and families.

• Ability to handle administrative responsibilities such as budgeting, billing, and policy implementation.

• Knowledge of child development, classroom management, and early learning best practices.

• Proficiency in technology for administrative tasks and record-keeping.

• Strong problem-solving skills and ability to adapt to challenges effectively.
