Primary Responsibilities

Daily Responsibilities

Pick-Up and Drop-Off Duties

• Safely transport children to and from the preschool or designated locations.

• Ensure all children are properly seated and secured with seat belts or safety restraints.

• Maintain punctuality for scheduled pick-up and drop-off times.

Pre-Trip Vehicle Inspection

• Conduct a daily vehicle safety check (tire pressure, oil, fuel, brakes, lights, etc.).

• Ensure the vehicle is clean and sanitized, focusing on high-touch areas like seats and door handles.

• Confirm that all required safety equipment (e.g., first aid kit, emergency contact list) is available.

Child Safety & Supervision

• Account for all children before departure and upon arrival.

• Monitor children’s behavior during transport to ensure safety and minimize distractions.

• Assist children in safely boarding and exiting the vehicle.

Communication with Preschool Staff

• Report any delays, accidents, or vehicle issues immediately to the preschool administration.

• Communicate any special instructions or concerns regarding individual children (e.g., medical conditions, pick-up details).

• Ensure preschool staff is informed about transportation schedules and updates.

Traffic Laws and Safety Compliance

• Adhere to all traffic regulations and safety protocols.

• Drive cautiously, maintaining a smooth and secure ride for all passengers.

• Avoid distractions and ensure full attention to the road at all times.

Weekly Responsibilities

Vehicle Maintenance & Inspections

• Perform a more detailed vehicle check-up, including fluid levels, tire condition, and brake performance.

• Report any mechanical issues and schedule necessary repairs.

Refueling & Route Planning

• Ensure the vehicle has sufficient fuel for the week’s trips.

• Plan and review the most efficient and safest routes for pick-ups, drop-offs, and field trips.

Record Keeping & Documentation

• Maintain accurate records of children’s pick-up and drop-off times.

• Complete any required transportation logs or incident reports.

Monthly Responsibilities

Vehicle Deep Cleaning

• Conduct a thorough cleaning of the vehicle, including vacuuming, washing, and sanitizing all surfaces.

• Ensure a hygienic and pleasant environment for children and staff.

Safety Training & Compliance

• Attend any scheduled safety meetings or training sessions.

• Review and refresh emergency procedures and child transportation regulations.

Equipment & Regulation Review

• Verify that all safety equipment (e.g., car seats, emergency kits) is up to date and compliant with state regulations.

• Implement any new safety measures based on updated preschool policies or transportation laws.

As-Needed Responsibilities

Emergency Response

• Be prepared to handle medical or vehicle-related emergencies (e.g., accidents, breakdowns).

• Follow emergency protocols, including contacting authorities and preschool administration if necessary.

Support for Special Events & Field Trips

• Assist with transportation for school events, outings, and educational trips.

• Ensure proper child supervision and maintain adult-to-child ratios during travel.

Qualifications

• Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.

• Previous experience in childcare transportation or commercial driving preferred.

• Knowledge of child safety and transportation laws.

• Ability to communicate effectively with children, staff, and parents.

• Strong time management and organizational skills to maintain schedules.

• Must pass a criminal background check and drug screening.

• Current CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).
  
  

Other Requirements

• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs (e.g., assisting children, handling safety equipment, etc.).

• Must pass a DOT physical examination (if required by state regulations).

• Willingness to work early mornings and afternoons according to preschool schedules.

• Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding student and family information.

• Flexibility to work extra hours for school events, field trips, or unexpected schedule changes.

• Must comply with all state licensing regulations regarding child transportation.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Safe Driving Skills: Strong knowledge of defensive driving techniques and road safety.

• Child Supervision & Safety Awareness: Ability to manage children’s behavior and ensure their safety during transport.

• Time Management: Punctuality and ability to adhere to strict schedules.

• Communication Skills: Effectively communicating with parents, school staff, and children.

• Problem-Solving: Quick decision-making in case of unexpected delays, weather conditions, or emergencies.

• Attention to Detail: Regularly checking vehicle conditions, maintaining accurate records, and following safety procedures.

• Patience & Friendly Attitude: Comfortable working with young children and handling their needs with care.

• Basic Mechanical Knowledge: Ability to conduct pre-trip vehicle inspections and report issues accurately.
